Who's Your One?
On the first Sunday of this new year, our church family launched a new emphasis called “Who’s Your One?” For the year 2020, every member of our church family is being challenged to pray about and build a relationship with one person who is not a follower of JESUS.
Meet with the person on a regular basis, allow GOD’s love to flow through your life to that person’s, and seek to share the gospel naturally as you meet throughout the year.
We hear the challenge of “let’s reach this city with the gospel!” Well, it’s a rather daunting task for one person to reach 600,000+ people in one year. But what if every follower of JESUS focused on building a relationship and sharing the gospel with one person( yet realizing we should be obedient to share the gospel whenever GOD gives us the opportunity). Just what would happen if we focused on building a relationship with a specific person via
· A regular meeting for coffee at a coffee shop;
· Engaging someone in a mutually enjoyed hobby: fishing, hiking, golf, running, biking, sewing, etc;
· Taking the person out for breakfast or lunch on occasion;
· Having the person to your home for a meal;
· Attend an event together: movie, football game, theatre production, half marathon, etc.
While JESUS did teach in public buildings such as synagogues, He devoted the overwhelming majority of His time and ministry outside of buildings. He went to where the people were at! Matthew 9:35 declared, “And JESUS went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.” JESUS loved people He did not even know, and devoted His ministry “to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10). JESUS’ ministry reflected this love, as indicated in Matthew 9:36: “When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
The spiritual need “out there” is huge! That is the reason JESUS said in Matthew 9:37: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the LORD of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
“Who’s Your One” is the fulfillment of this prayer of JESUS. We get “out there” where the unsaved people are. With love and compassion, we build relationships with these people because we genuinely love them and earnestly desire for each one of them to have a personal relationship with JESUS.
Join with me in praying for GOD to use each one of us in a great way to reach spiritually lost people with the good news of the gospel!
