I saw it very early this morning. I thought I would find it. And I certainly did! But I didn't know it would be so pervasive. It was everywhere. What was it? It was what was written on almost every face of every person I passed in the grocery story. I saw fear.

I occasionally stop by a grocery store very, very early in the morning on my way to my church office. I get a case of bottled water and a box or two of oatmeal. Typically, as I enter the parking lot, I see just a small "smattering" of parked cars. As I walk through the stores, I rarely pass another person in the aisles. When I check out, I am usually the only person in line. And, as I walk out of the store, I am the sole person in the parking lot.

But not today! I saw fear. Lots of it! I saw fear when I drove into the parking lot to see so many parked cars. I saw fear as I saw a mass of people entering the store. I saw fear via the rows of empty shelves in the stores. But, most of all, I saw fear "written on the faces of people." It was eerily quiet in the store. People "milled around" in silence. It was almost like they were in shock. Indeed, the corona virus has completely disrupted the rhythms of our normal, every day lives.

As followers of JESUS, we are not immune to fear. Like everyone else, fear enters our lives, though uninvited, seeking to throw us off of our spiritual equilibrium. Yet, as believers, we have the antidote for fear - our personal relationship with GOD through His Son, JESUS CHRIST.

So how can we address the fears we currently face? How can we withstand the fear surrounding us? The answer is actually quite simple. But, as you already know, finding a solution to a problem is much easier than implementing and resolving it.

Let your faith defeat your fears! Focus on your relationship with GOD. Turn to Him in prayer. In dealing with our anxieties, GOD's Word tells us in Philippians 4: 6-7 to "stop worrying and start praying." Yes, faith always trumps fear! Then open GOD's Word. Unlike the empty shelves of a grocery store, GOD's Word has wonderful promises galore in regard to your fears. Here are a few:

Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your GOD. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous hand."

Isaiah 43:1: "For now, this is what the LORD says...Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine."

Psalm 27:1: "The LORD is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?"

Deuteronomy 31:6: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your GOD goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you."

Psalm 34:4: "I prayed to the LORD, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears."

So, declare war on your fears today! Implement the known strategy. Pray! Read GOD's Word! As you do, your fears will dissipate as your faith grows stronger. And, when you step in public, what is written on your face will offer a stark contrast to what you see on the faces of those who do not believe. You will be a witness! Faith over fear!
