PRAYER AND OUR FUTURE AT RHC

Paul sounds the alarm in Ephesias 6: 10-12: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the LORD and in the power of His might.

Put on the whole armor of GOD, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, agains powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

The apostle Paul reminds us that we need GOD’s strength and armor in order to fight our enemy, called Satan or the devil. Since the devil is GOD’s enemy, he is our enemy as well.

Paul commands us to put on the “whole armor of GOD,” described in verses 15-17, in order to withstand the “wiles” or “the schemes” or “the strategies” of the devil.

The word “schemes” in verse 11 is spelled methodia in the original language. It is from we derive our English word “method.” John MacArthur, in his commentary on Ephesians, says the word “method” “carries the idea of craftiness, cunning, and deception. The term was often used of a wild animla who cunningly stalked and then unexpected pounced on its prey. Satan’s evil schemes are builg around stealth and deception.”

Satan uses his evil forces to execute his strategy. Concerning verse 12, Word Biblical Commentary says “The battle is not against a human enemy, but, seen from a cosmic perspective, is against spiritual powers, designated in the terminology of the time as principalities and authorities and the world rulers of this darkness. These powers, under the leadership of the devil, dominate the present evil age and are summed up by the writer as “spiritual forces of evil.”

What is Satan’s strategy to defeat GOD? He attacks Christians. He certainly can’t successfully attack GOD! The devil himself seeks to execute strategy that includes destroying marriages, devastating families, and creating conflict among GOD’s people.

What should be our response both individually and as a church family? First, we must put on the whole armor of GOD. Second, we must PRAY!! Look at Ephesians 6:18: “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the SPIRIT, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.”

With the upcoming construction of our church building, and realizing the potential to impact possibly thousands of lives, Satan indeed is going to seek to enact his strategies to stop the work of GOD. We, therefore, must “ramp up” our prayer lives, taking the to the next level. We must pray

· For GOD to put a protective hedge around the marriages in our church;

· For GOD to put a protective hedge around the families in our church;

· For GOD to put a protective hedge around our entire church family.

Our future “is as bright as the promises of GOD.” Construction on our new facility will begin soon. So, we are entering a spiritual battlefield. The daily battle we will face with be supernatural. We cannot win unless we have supernatural power. The power of the devil is greater than our physical power. We must have the power of GOD in our lives to be victorious in this battle. And the key component to victory in this spiritual battle is our prayer lives!!
