Our Christmas Outreach with Will Rogers Elementary School

Several years ago our church family at CDBC entered a wonderful partnership with Will Rogers Elementary School.  Through our relationship with them, we have come to know this Bible verse more experientially:  "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

I want to give a "shout-out" to our Women's Ministry, which recently delivered cookies and handwritten notes to EACH teacher/worker at Will Rogers.  One of the professional assistant's at the school mentioned this act of kindness to me, and expressed genuine gratitude from all the recipients of these delicious cookies.

Today, I had the privilege of going with Ed McGee, Ross Jagers, and Jessica Husted to deliver 2 bicycles and 5 HUGE boxes of toys and other gifts to the school for needy children.  Here is the tally:

  • Hundreds of beanie babies and stuffed animals;

  • 12 blankets;

  • 14 coats, boots, and other clothing;

  • 2 bicycles;

  • and 287 toys.

A total of 315 not counting the beanie babies and stuffed animals.

I count it a remarkable privilege and joy to serve as lead pastor of such an amazingly generous church family!  Through the generosity of the people of GOD called "Circle Drive," we have been "salt" and "light" to the world.

One of the many reasons I love our church family is their desire to "get outside the four walls" of the church and BE THE CHURCH.  "Church" is not eating a donut, drinking coffee, enjoying a Bible Study, singing songs, hearing a sermon, and going out for noon lunch.  "Church" is the people of GOD on mission in the world, with the ultimate goal of bringing glory to our great GOD.  Thank you, church family, for modeling the Christian life - giving, sacrificing, serving, and going!  To GOD be the glory!
