My Trip to Northern Colorado

I have enjoyed the privilege of serving the past 2 years as the President of the Colorado Baptist Convention.  My second year term concludes at our annual meeting in October.  This position has given me the opportunity to travel across our state to meet with pastors, tour church facilities, and pray with/for them and the churches they serve!

I drove this past Tuesday and Wednesday to tour the Long's Peak Baptist Association.  The Director of Missions, Ralph Helm, invited me to come last January at our last Executive Board meeting.  So, on my way, I stopped by Denver to have coffee with a wonderful pastor friend of mine, Dr. Calvin Wittman, senior pastor of one of the flagship churches in our state, Applewood Baptist.  He has served at the church for 17 years.  So we have become very good friends through the years.

I then drove to Loveland to meet with Ralph Helm for lunch at McGraff's, a very popular local restaurant.  Ralph has a wonderful heart for pastors and local churches.  I really enjoyed getting better acquainted, as well as learning about the churches in the association.  He then took me for a tour of the Loveland and Fort Collins area, which is experiencing a rapid rise in population.  We saw local churches, and also stopped at Cornerstone Church to meet one of the pastors and tour the church's facilities.

On Tuesday night, Paul Tremble, pastor at Bent Tree Church in Loveland, took me out for dinner.  He and I really hit it off.  Great guy!  GOD is using him in a wonderful way at the church he serves!

On Wednesday morning, I had the privilege of leading a seminar on Leadership to a group of pastors, church, as well as college campus leaders.  I was really quite honored to teach, as well as field questions from the participants.  We actually extended the time for the meeting in order to talk more about the issue of leadership.  I was truly blessed!

So, on the way home, I stopped by the office of Pastor Tony Lambert, who serves as lead pastor of Riverside Church in Denver.  He had been wanting to meet and eat.  So my trip back to the Springs allowed me the opportunity to do so!  I really enjoyed getting acquainted with him.

I am grateful for the privilege of serving Colorado Baptists as state convention president!  AND I greatly appreciate my wonderful church family supporting me as I serve in this capacity!!
