A Word from Dr. Mike - 5/3/22

For believers who are experiencing difficult or painful circumstances, GOD truly has a word for them. Nahum 1:7:

The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him.

Regardless of our changing circumstances, we can rest assured in the confidence that our great GOD never changes. Verse 7 declares, “The LORD is good…” In the good times and in the bad times. In times of ease and times of discomfort. In times of prosperity and times of loss. In times of good health and times of sickness. One constant never changes: “The LORD is good.”

Psalm 34:8a:

Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good…

Psalm 107:1:

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!

Psalm 119:68:

You are good, and do good…

Psalm 135:3a

Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good…

When our circumstances go “south,” according to Nahum 1:7, we have this assurance: (The LORD) “is a stronghold in the day of trouble.”

GOD offers protection and help. He indeed is our fortress, our refuge, our stronghold “in the day of trouble,” in the painful and difficult seasons of our lives when we encounter a variety of trials.

The last sentence of Nahum 1:7 is a good one: “And He knows those who trust in Him.” Commentator David Guzik said, “GOD knows us; He knows our prayers and our tears, He knows our wishes, He knows that we are not what we want to be, but He knows what we do desire to be. He knows our aspirations, our sighs, our groans, our secret longings, our own chastenings of spirit when we fail; He has entered into it all.” Charles H. Spurgeon wrote, “Yes, dear child, I know all about you; I have been with you when you thought you were alone. I have read what you could not read, the secrets of your own heart that you could not decipher. I have known them all, and I still know them.”

At all times, especially in times of adversity, “The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who trust in Him.”
