A Word from Dr. Mike - 5/17/22

I Thessalonians 5: 11 declares, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” In a world filled with darkness and hopelessness, GOD’s Word commands to focus on the positive and focus on others. In a discouraging and “tear down” culture, Paul declares, since we are followers of JESUS, that we keep on encouraging “one another and build one another up.”

Sometimes, when I am driving, as I pass homes on the street, I ask myself the question, “I wonder what burdens people are experiencing behind that door.” We live in a broken world filled with broken people. And it seems behind every door is brokenness.

We will engage in encouraging one another and building one another up when we are filled with the SPIRIT (Ephesians 5:18). Philippians 2:4 reminds us, “Let each one of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”

This week, let me share with you two opportunities to encourage others.

First, the oldest member of our church, Ruth Frazier, is turning 103 on June 9. The Life Group meeting in the worship center on Sunday morning has announced a “card party” for Ruth. If you would like to send Ruth a birthday greeting card, please bring it to the church on Sunday morning and give it to a member of our teaching team: Mark Proctor, Charles Hickmott, or myself. The cards will be delivered to Ruth.

Second, our pastor emeritus, Dr. Lewis Adkison, has experienced some serious health challenges recently related to his mobility. If you would like to send a get-well or appreciation for ministry card to Dr. and Mrs. Adkison, you can sent it to their home address: 2208 Essex Lane, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.

Hebrews 3:13a declares, “But encourage one another daily….” As followers of JESUS, let’s “be on the lookout” for people we can encourage on a daily basis. As GOD’s SPIRIT empowers us, let’s be consistent encouragers!
