A Tribute to Cal Hyche
On behalf of our church family at Redemption Hill, I want to extend my love, sympathy, and prayer support to the family of Cal Hyche, who passed away to heaven last Tuesday, April 2 at the age of 98. Cal was preceded in death by his wife, Marge in 2014.
Cal was born and raised in Alabama. When he enlisted in the US Army in 1942, he was assigned to Camp Carson. Marge was working in the doctors and nurses chow hall. They met, and were married December 1, 1942. Their marriage lasted 71 years!
Cal and Marge were faithful members of our church for many years. One day they approached me and asked, "Can we do some landscaping work around the church - plant new shrubs and flowers. We would like for our church to look attractive on the outside to our guests and members." Of course I said "yes" - enthusiastically. So Cal and Marge and sometimes their family members would work on a regular basis, maintaining the landscaping around the church building at 801 N. Circle Drive.
Cal was a man who persevered in his faith. He encountered some very difficult "seasons" in his life: the passing of his daughter "Annie" of cancer in 1997, the sudden and tragic death of his grandson Justin in 2005, and the passing of his wife of 71 years, Marge, in 2014. Yet Cal maintained a strong faith in GOD throughout these times of heartbreak.
Cal's celebration of life service will be held this morning, Monday, April 8, at 10:30 am at Swan-Law Funeral Home, with a graveside committal service scheduled for Evergreen Cemetery. Please be sure to pray for the Hyche family!
